Ariel Levy and Human Sexuality

After watching several videos in which Ariel Levy, author of Female Chauvinist Pigs, discusses female sexuality, I have some mixed feelings. On the one hand, she is correct that women are held to unrealistic beauty standards. No one is born hairless, and it is unrealistic to expect women to spend countless hours remaining hairless for the rest of their lives, or to get surgeries to enhance their features, or enlarge there chest. She is also correct in saying that companies like Girl’s Gone Wild and Playboy do take advantage of women. Girl’s Gone Wild doesn’t pay those women anything, and the women do it purely out of peer pressure. This is understandably problematic. Continue reading
